In a candid interview with ET‘s Rachel Smith, country star Blake Shelton revealed his New Year’s resolution: to cut back on, if not quit, drinking. The 47-year-old admitted to the challenge, acknowledging past failed attempts but asserting that this year is different.
“I haven’t managed to stop drinking yet. That’s been hard, you know, even cutting back,” Shelton confessed. “But it’s a resolution. I’ll say it again now—it’s my New Year’s resolution, to either cut back or stop drinking altogether.”
The revelation comes ahead of Shelton’s performance at New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash, alongside country peers like Lainey Wilson, Carly Pearce, Kane Brown, Morgan Wallen, and Trace Adkins.
“I will do it if we can get Trace to come down… there’s nobody more fun for me to be around than Trace Adkins,” Shelton quipped when discussing the event.
Reflecting on a past New Year’s Eve, Shelton humorously recalled hosting Adam Levine. “It was New Year’s Eve, like maybe the second or third season of The Voice. The things that we did to him. Have you ever seen the movie Deliverance? You should watch it. Well, he hasn’t been back.”
As Shelton aims for a booze-free future, fans can catch New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash on CBS.
